Iguana

Weighted lids hang on
wet eyes.
Bags of skin
throb under the throat.
The chin rises, eyes snap.
Saliva puddles in anticipation.
Skin ripples as muscles
glide over bone.
Talons clutch nubbins
of shale. Taut
flesh scrapes dust.
Bone triangles writhe as the
tail divides clouds of earth.
Jaws wiggle,
munching on a flower.
Hunger ceases.
