the honeymoon is over
the road
strings
out
before my
headlights, a
tarmac frog's
tongue. hope
it doesn't
snap
back, my tires
welded to the
tip.
four
hours should be
enough.
she sleeps, the seatbelt
pressing into her cheek. she
holds the clown you
bought to celebrate her
birth. do you recall?
she won't remember
you. not sorry about
that.
took two pair of
levis and the springsteen
tape. left the alligator
ashtray you made for
me.
like everything you
do, your pottery is
clumsy.

I was a member of the editorial staff for this edition. My bio in the mag says "Barbara Muller finds that three years of college has greatly increased the amount of paper she must move from one pile to another. Things have disappeared into the piles, like the bedroom floor. She surfaces occasionally for class, and sometimes escapes with an actual piece of writing."
